For two months, I struggled to breastfeed my daughter with the support of 4 different lactation consultants from Kaiser. They were not very helpful and it got to the point where the thought of my daughter waking and needing to feed filled me with dread and anxiety. Not only was she not doing well with the breast, but she'd started to scream bloody murder when we tried to bottle feed her as well. About to give up, a friend suggested I seek out support outside of Kaiser and so in my search, I came across Goldilacts. I saw the 99 five star reviews and thought... these reviews have GOT to be fake... but I was desperate and reached out for a consultation. Candice J triaged my case and after assessing my situation, Candice N ended up coming out for a home visit. I remember her asking me what my goal was for our sessions. I said that, as a working mother, I wanted to be able to breastfeed her as much as I could, but wanted her to be able to take a bottle when I could not. I remember not being able to stop the tears from coming at that point as I'd been so scared to voice such a seemingly unattainable goal. In response, she gave me an empathetic look and said matter of factly, "You can have all of that if that's what you want." In that moment, I didn't believe her, however, in the next 5 hours, I was so elated to have her prove me wrong!! She is TRULY the baby whisperer! During her time with us, not only did she help us with breastfeeding, but she also provided us with numerous baby care tips that shifted our daughter into the most laid back baby we'd ever seen! Beyond the technical support she provided us with though, she gave me back my confidence as a mother, which was a HUGE shift for me. What I liked most about Candice N's support was that while she did give suggestions that were specific to what she saw while she was with us, she always helped us understand the underlying principal of what she was doing, which allowed us and STILL allows us to generalize the specific lesson that she was covering to other behaviors and issues. Now our daughter is 4.5 months old and she's a super happy and super chubby baby! I will definitely reach out to them again if we have another child (much more likely now!). In the many many years that I've used Yelp, I've never written a review before. As a fellow mother who was by no exaggeration on her way to a mental breakdown, I want to say that if you are struggling with breastfeeding, PLEASE reach out to Golidlacts as you are not alone and there are wonderful people like the Candices' who CAN HELP you get your life back and let you be the mother you want to be, whether it's via breastfeeding or bottle feeding! THANK YOU, CANDICE N!!!
I can't say enough about Candice Nicole and the quality of service she was able to provide for my wife, our 2 month old son, and me. She was our 4th lactation consultant and we had just about given up when a friend reached out to Goldilacts. I really had no expectations, actually might even had been skeptical, but I was so pleasantly surprised. What separated our experience with Candice from the other LCs was her warmth, personality, empathy, and holistic approach. She not only was able to get our son to breastfeed (which was amazing btw), but she really was therapeutic for us as a family. We felt comfortable bringing up anything with her and we really just connected with her. After our sessions, it was also nice that she checked in on us or quickly responded to any questions we had. Our experience was that a lot of the steps various LCs will guide you through are pretty similar or the same, however, what really set Candice apart was her ability to guide us through the process that breastfeeding isn't just a physical activity- it's just as much, if not more, a mental activity.
Come for the lactation and stay for the therapy!
